The cherry blossom season this year was brief but lovely. We really only had one good weekend when the cherries were in full bloom. Luckily, I was able to spend a few days out among the cherries with guests from abroad.
The other day, my guide Koko and I took some friends for a walk around Yoshida-yama to enjoy the cherry blossoms. I learned a lot from Koko about Japan and Kyoto.
After three weeks enjoying summery weather in New Zealand, I returned to Kyoto to be greeted by a snowstorm. My wife Hiroe and I took the train up to Kurama to enjoy the snow.
One of my favorite festivals in Kyoto is the Setsubun Matsuri held at Yoshida-jinja, a short walk from my house. At this matsuri, people burn their old good luck charms and amulets from the previous year.
